Ashlyns Organic Farm Shop

The Farm Shop at Van Hage is Ashlyns' second, the first being on the
farm at North Weald. Both sell fresh organic produce, and meat from the
farm, as well as a comprehensive range of other organic chilled, ambient
and frozen products, plus wine and beer. Both shops have a fully stocked
delicatessen.

All about Ashlyns...
Ashlyns lies in the rolling clay-lands of West Essex. It is an ancient
and still unspoiled countryside of winding lanes, thick hedgerows and
meandering brooks.
The Collins family started farming at Ashlyns in 1970. At that time, in
spite of its high population, Essex was something of an Organic desert
with only a few small scale box schemes in operation. Organic farming
which aims to harmonise food growing with nature and wildlife appealed
to us and in 1997 they began converting land to organic production. In
1999 when the first land reached conversion we started growing
vegetables as well as the potatoes, onions and wheat originally planned.
The farm already had a large number of small fields, and assisted by a 5
year Countryside Stewardship Scheme they continue to make many
environmental improvements: arable field margins, recreating water
meadows, beetle banks, maintaining ancient hedgerows and woodlands and
new plantings. The entire 1450 acres is now farmed organically.

It is an open farm - open to the public, but also an education centre
for all ages. Guided tours can be arranged, for school groups and other
organisations.

Ashlyns Organic Farm has been chosen by the Soil Association to be a
Demonstration Farm, as part of the Organic Farms Network.

The Soil Association organic symbol is a guarantee to the consumer that
the food is produced to the highest standards of animal welfare and
environmental protection. Ashlyns holds licence No 2401. The Soil
Association is vigourously opposed to all GM foods
.
